  Veliko Tarnovo

Director:  Kaloyan NIkolov

St. Demetrius of Thessaloniki - was born in Thessaloniki in the 3rd century. His father was the ruler of the city and, by religious belief, a Christian. When Dimitar's parents died, Emperor Maximian appointed him to a high military post with orders to persecute Christians. However, the baptized child, Dimitar, protected them and began to promote the spread of the faith of Christ.

During the Second Bulgarian State St. Dimitar was among the most revered saints, and especially in the capital, Tarnovo. The first Assenians consider St. Demetrius their patron saint.
